Competition Rules
The NZOAA is open to all highschool students within New Zealand, however to be eligible to represent New Zealand at the IOAA, please see the “Representing New Zealand” section below.
The 2025 NZOAA will commence in October, exact date will be confirmed closer to the date. It consists of challenging problems in alignment with the official IOAA syllabus, and they are designed to challenge and bring out each students’ potential as much as possible.
Representing New Zealand
Participants must be under 20 years old on 1 July of the Olympiad year; they must not have completed secondary school before 1 January of that year, and must be citizens or regular residents of New Zealand.
Using the result from the NZOAA, the best performing 3 to 5 students will be invited to represent New Zealand at the annual International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
